Frequently asked questions

Perustuspalvelun työntekijä kypärässä betoniseinän vieressä

What information do you need for a soil investigation?

For a soil investigation we need the location of the planned building and its draft drawings.

What drawings do you need for foundation design?

For foundation design we need: - The soil investigation - Site plans - Floor plans - Section drawings of the building

What needs to be arranged on the plot before foundation work starts?

Before work starts, the plot must have: - A load-bearing access road The plot needs a load-bearing access road for a van, a concrete truck and a truck carrying hollow-core slabs. In winter the access roads must be ploughed. - A prepared building base The base must be levelled and compacted to a tolerance of -0/+30 mm. How the base is built is specified in the ground structure plan of the soil investigation. - Corner markers The corners of the house must be marked on the crushed-stone bed. They are usually marked by the municipality or city. - Electricity Electricity should be available during construction. If it is not yet available, please let us know in advance. In winter we need electricity to heat the concrete.

How much time should be reserved for building the foundations?

Building the foundations for a detached house takes about 2–3 days. If the project also includes hollow-core slabs, a garage or other outbuildings, the work takes about 5 days.

How soon can work continue after the foundations are done?

We recommend waiting about 1–2 days after the formwork has been removed. Depending on the weather, the interior backfilling can start earlier.

How much do foundations cost?

On load-bearing, level ground, the foundations of a detached house often cost €5,000–10,000. Many factors affect the loads and the cost of the foundations. If the house is on a slope or the soil is loose, the total price can exceed €20,000.
